The Philadelphia 76ers landed one of their current franchise cornerstones in the 2020 NBA draft when Tyrese Maxey tumbled into their lap with the No. 21 overall pick. After a solid season at Kentucky, Maxey entered the draft with concerns about his shot and it caused him to fall to Philadelphia.
In five seasons since entering the league, Maxey has put to rest any concerns about his game as he is averaging 19.5 points, 4.4 assists, and 3.0 rebounds while shooting 38.1% from deep. He shot 42.7% from deep in 2021-22 and 43.4% from deep in 2022-23.
HoopsHype put together a re-do of the 2020 NBA draft and they have Maxey going No. 3 overall to the Charlotte Hornets. That means the Sixers had to take somebody else and they have them taking Tre Jones who originally went No. 41 in the draft:
Much like his older brother Tyus, Tre Jones is a safe floor general who has a great assist-to-turnover ratio, but that’s really because he doesn’t take many risks with the ball in his hands. For a backup point guard in the NBA that may be all right, but Jones’ game won’t cut it for a starter in the league. Jones can also do some scoring off the dribble from the midrange, but his lack of three-point shooting hurts his nightly impact.
Jones has career averages of 8.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists while shooting 48.8% from the floor and 31.1% from deep. As mentioned, he has been a solid scorer, but his lack of a consistent 3-point shot holds him back a bit on a nightly basis.
