Three goals. That’s all Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin has left to score before he owns the NHL’s all-time goals record.
“The Great Eight,” as he’s called, scored career tally No. 892 on Wednesday against the Carolina Hurricanes. He’s now just three away from passing Hockey Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky (894).
Ovechkin whipped a one-timer from the left faceoff circle past goaltender Frederik Andersen during a five-on-three power play in the second period.
