The New York Knicks are right where they want to be.
After wrapping the season with a sterling 51-31 record — their best since 2013 — Jalen Brunson and co. secured the third seed in the NBA’s Eastern Conference, which means they’ll have home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs against Cade Cunningham’s sixth-seeded Detroit Pistons, who finished the year 44-38.
And, even though the Knicks seem to have the advantage on paper, Tom Thibodeau’s squad won’t be able to rest easy in this series. In 2024-25, the clubs went head-to-head four times and the Pistons won three of those matchups.
“It’s going to be a war,” Cunningham said Sunday on ESPN. “It’s going to be highly physical games — defense, battling it out on the glass, all of those different things.”
Game 1 goes down at NYC’s Madison Square Garden on Saturday, April 19 at 6 p.m. As of now, the second game is TBD.
If you want to be there to witness the “war” (which will also be the Pistons’ first playoff series since 2019), live tickets are available for all seven hypothetical games.
At the time of publication, the lowest price for any Knicks MSG home game in the series is $208 before fees on Vivid Seats.
For those that are hoping to attend a showdown in the Motor City, tickets start at $91 before fees for games at Detroit’s Little Caesar’s Arena.
Be wary though, Knicks fans.
“The Pistons placed geographical restrictions on who can purchase tickets to their home playoff games, but said the tactic is not an attempt to keep Knicks supporters away from Little Caesars Arena, according to a team spokesman,” The Post wrote.
“Potential ticket buyers for upcoming playoff games in Detroit — which include Games 3 and 4 of the first-round series versus the Knicks — must produce a credit card with a mailing address ‘located in Michigan and in certain parts of Ohio, Indiana and Ontario, Canada,’” according to Ticketmaster,
Thankfully, Vivid Seats purchases will not be affected.

About Knicks-Pistons series
As noted above, the Knicks and Pistons met four times during the 2024-25 regular season.
In their first matchup, on Nov. 1, 2024, New York visited Detroit and won 128-98 on the road. Brunson scored 36 points while OG Anunoby and Karl-Anthony Towns each chipped in 21.
From there, the Pistons went on a tear. On Dec. 7, J.B. Bickerstaff’s club handily defeated Thibodeau’s team 120-111. Cade Cunningham dropped 29 and Malik Beasley contributed 23. As for the Knicks, Brunson led the way again with 31.
The third game on Jan. 13 was another strong showing for Detroit. The team, which had finally pulled above .500 at this time, came out on top 124-119. Cunningham went off for 36 and, while the Knicks had a balanced effort from Bruson, Towns and Mikal Bridges — all of whom scored over 25 points — the team couldn’t close at home.
The final battle took place April 10 at Little Caesars Arena. Cade Cunningham scored 36 yet again, lifting the Pistons to a 115-106 victory.
As noted above, this series will mark the Pistons’ first playoff appearance since 2019. Their most recent postseason win was in 2008.
The Knicks and Pistons have not faced off in the playoffs since 1992, which the Knicks won 3-2.
In the teams’ franchise histories, they’ve suited up in the postseason four times.
