Championship edition: Swampcast discusses Florida basketball, spring football
The Sun’s Kevin Brockway and Noah Ram reflects on Florda basketball’s national title and UF’s football spring game with Edgar Thompson of the Orlando Sentinel.
Florida basketball center Rueben Chinyelu announced on social media that he intends to put his name in the NBA Draft with an option to return to UF.
The 6-foot-10, 260-pound Chinyelu, a transfer from Washington State and native of Enugwu-Agidi, Nigeria, started all 40 games for the national champion Florida Gators as a sophomore in 2024-25 and was instrumental in the team going 36-4 this past season.

Chinyelu averaged 6.0 points and 6.6 rebounds, posting four double doubles on the season. With a 7-foot-6 wingspan, Chinyelu blocked 34 shots and altered several others around the rim.
Chinyelu joins teammate and sophomore forward Alex Condon, who also put his name into the NBA Draft last week. Both will get a chance to go through NBA workouts and have until May 28 at 11:59 p.m. to decide whether to return to UF or stay in the draft.
Last year, Florida guards Walter Clayton Jr. and Will Richard put their names in the draft before deciding to return to school. The feedback they received both helped them improve their individual games and sparked UF’s 2024-25 national title run.
