The National League West isn’t just proving to be the best division in Major League Baseball through the first couple weeks of the season — it may have the four best teams in the league.

The San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, and Arizona Diamondbacks all reside in the NL West, and take up the top four spots in the third edition of Newsweek Sports‘ MLB Power Rankings.
Behind them is two more NL teams — the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets — as the NL proves to be by far the superior league. Just three American League teams find themselves in the top 10.
With no change at the top but tons of movement below, here are this week’s rankings.

Biggest Risers
Arizona Diamondbacks (+5)
The Diamondbacks have won five in a row and seven of their last eight games. They would be in first place if they were in any other division. Instead, they’re in fourth in the NL West.
Seattle Mariners (+4)
The Mariners have won five of their last seven games, and seven of their last nine. They won back-to-back series against AL West rivals, including a series sweep of the first-place Rangers.
Biggest Fallers
Kansas City Royals (-5)
The Royals have lost four in a row and were swept by the Yankees, scoring just six runs across the three-game series. Their offense has been nonexistent this season, scoring a measly 2.95 runs per game, which ranks last in the AL and 29th in all of MLB, only ahead of the lowly Rockies.
Philadelphia Phillies (-4)
The Phillies lost back-to-back series against the Braves and Cardinals before splitting with the Giants. They’re middle of the pack in terms of runs per game and team ERA.
Los Angeles Angels (-4)
Last week I apologized for not taking the Angels seriously. Since then, they’ve gone 1-5 and scored just four runs in their three-game series against the Rangers in which they were swept.
