St. John’s transfer guard Joson Sanon has declared for the NBA Draft and will go through workouts with individual teams, NJ Advance Media has learned.

The news was first reported by Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report.

The 6-foot-5 Sanon is expected to get feedback from the NBA and then play for Rick Pitino and the Red Storm next season after transferring from Arizona State.

“There’s no problem with Sanon testing the NBA waters,” ESPN’s Fran Fraschilla told NJ Advance Media. “He’ll get a clearer idea of where he stands, not in this draft, but the next couple of NBA Drafts.”

Sanon averaged 11.9 points (on 42.2% shooting), 3.4 rebounds and an assist in 28.3 minutes per game over 27 games for Arizona State in 2024-25.

He then transferred to St. John’s, which now has the No. 1-ranked portal class in the nation, per 247Sports.com.

In addition to Sanon, the class includes Ian Jackson (UNC), Oziyah Sellers (Stanford), Bryce Hopkins (Providence), Dillon Mitchell (Cincinnati) and Dylan Darling (Idaho State).

St. John’s is also losing several players to the portal in big man Vince Iwuchukwu, off guards Simeon Wilcher (Texas) and Jaiden Glover (St. Joe’s), center Khaman Maker (DePaul) and wing Brady Dunlap (Saint Louis).
