Over the weekend, the Red Sox pulled off a feat that previously was never accomplished by the storied franchise in the expansion era.
Boston logged one of its most exciting plays of the season to date in the nightcap of Saturday’s doubleheader in Cleveland. Jarren Duran, who went 3-for-5 with two RBIs in Game 2 against the Guardians, put an exclamation point on his stellar performance by stealing home.
And less than 24 hours later, one of Duran’s Red Sox teammates followed suit. Romy González also stole home at Progressive Field in the fifth inning of Sunday afternoon’s win after Kristian Campbell baited a throw down to second with a theft of his own.
González deserved credit for his heads-up baserunning and wheels, but the 28-year-old felt he didn’t deserve to be in the same spotlight as Duran.
“Jarren’s was a lot cooler,” González told reporters, per MassLive. “I just want to get that on the record.”

González also gave a good deal of the credit to third base coach Kyle Hudson.
“Huddy, we were there chatting,” Gonzalez told reporters. “He told me to take off if I got a good read. That’s exactly what happened.”
González’s swipe embodied the “aggressive” play style that the Red Sox brought to their weekend set against the Guardians. The approach resulted in a series win, so Boston could look to do more of the season beginning Tuesday when it opens a three-gamer in Toronto.
