CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – In their 2-minute report, the NBA acknowledged an officiating mistake in a critical moment of Monday’s Game 2 between the Cavaliers and Pacers.
Tyrese Haliburton missed a free throw in the final seconds, grabbed his own rebound and seconds later drilled a game-winning three-pointer. The league says that never should have happened.
In what the NBA calls an Incorrect Non-Call they said “Multiple players enter the lane and cross the three-point line before the ball is released for the free throw, and the shooter steps over the plane of the free throw line before the ball touches the rim. The call should have been made and a jump ball held at midcourt.“
That does little for the Cavs now as they trail 2-0 in this best of seven series. It will no doubt add fuel to the fire that Cleveland head coach Kenny Atkinson had after Game 1 when he felt like multiple plays should have been called fouls that were not.
The Cavaliers and Pacers will play Game 3 in Indianapolis on Friday night.
