Rich Hill will try to continue his MLB career in the American League Central.

The Kansas City Royals announced they signed Rich Hill to a minor league contract on Tuesday and is expected to join Triple-A Omaha soon.

Hill, 45, will enter his 21st season and play for his 14th team.

The veteran pitcher had four separate stints with his hometown Boston Red Sox, including in 2024. Hill made four appearances before he was designated for assignment in September.

He expressed no desire to retire after the 2024 season and told MLB Network he planned to play in 2025. While he didn’t sign with anyone during the offseason, he kept his arm sharp while pitching for Team USA in the WBSC Premier 12 tournament. In 10⅓ innings, Hill allowed five hits, two walks but didn’t give up an earned run and struck out 14 batters.

In 20 seasons Hill is 90-74 with a 4.01 ERA, 1.259 WHIP and 1,428 strikeouts. With the Red Sox he went 12-9 with a 3.34 ERA between 30 starts and 44 relief appearances.
