On Friday, the Philadelphia Phillies announced multiple roster moves before their series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Right-hander Aaron Nola was placed on the 15-day injured list with an ankle sprain, per MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki. The IL stint comes after Nola had the worst outing of his career on Wednesday vs. the St. Louis Cardinals, allowing nine runs on 12 hits in 3.2 innings.
Nola is one of the most durable pitchers in the sport. He has avoided the injured list for much of his career. This is his first time on the IL since July 2021.
In his place, Phillies No. 8 prospect Mick Abel will make his MLB debut on Sunday against the Pirates, where he’ll face off against ace Paul Skenes.
