The Dallas Stars are on their way to the Western Conference Final for the third consecutive season after defeating the Winnipeg Jets, 2-1, in Game 6 of their second-round series on Saturday night. Defenseman Thomas Harley scored the game-winning goal for the Stars to clinch the game and the series.

Here is a look at the play.

Harley’s goal came on the power play just a little more than a minute into the extra period.

Dallas was on the power play because of a tripping call against Jets forward Mark Scheifele in the closing seconds of regulation. It was the only penalty called in the entire game. All of that made it an especially cruel ending for Scheifele.

He was playing in Saturday’s game after finding out that his father had unexpectedly died on Friday night. He opened the scoring in the second period with an emotional goal, then had to watch the game-winning goal from the penalty box.

It was a penalty, but there was a lot of debate on the broadcast as to whether or not it should have been a penalty shot as opposed to a tripping minor. Winnipeg might have preferred the penalty shot because it would have only been a one-on-one play between Sam Steel (the player tripped) and Connor Hellebuyck who had played one of his best games of the series. It was instead a penalty, setting the stage for Harley’s goal.
