Before he was an NBA star, Oshkosh North’s Tyrese Haliburton appeared on Varsity Roundtable in January 2018. Here are some of the highlights.
It has been an eventful last 12 months for Tyrese Haliburton.
The 25-year-old Oshkosh native played on the United States Olympic Team, was voted the most “overrated” player in the NBA by his peers, according to The Athletic, and was victorious in a heated first-round NBA playoffs matchup last month with the Milwaukee Bucks that further solidified what is becoming an intense rivalry with his home-state team.
All that is in the rearview mirror now as Haliburton and the Pacers take on the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Pacers won the first game of the series May 21, with Haliburton scoring 31 points in a 138-135 overtime victory.
Before Haliburton was a rising NBA star, he was a standout high school player for Oshkosh North. Here’s a look at Haliburton’s appearance on Varsity Roundtable in early January 2018, appearing with Kaukauna’s Jordan McCabe.
Two months later, Haliburton led his Spartans to the WIAA Division 1 state title with McCabe leading Kaukauna to the D2 crown.
