DeVonta Smith feels a young Alabama player has the potential to be the Crimson Tide’s next Heisman Trophy winner.
Smith was the third player in Alabama football history to capture the award when he earned it with a stellar football season in 2020.
The Louisiana product revealed in a recent interview on Overtime, he feels the next Alabama Heisman-winning wide receiver is on the Tide’s roster when he was asked if there is a current wide receiver, who he feels could take home the award in the future.
“Yeah, Ryan Williams,” Smith said as Williams watched on. “Great young receiver, has all the potential, but, you know, it’s only going to get harder. So, he got to keep going.”
Smith led the country with 98 receptions and 1,511 receiving yards during his Heisman season. He reflected back on the historical season during the interview.
“It shows the work that I put in, the help from my teammates, wouldn’t be able to do that without them,” Smith said. “But most definitely, the work that I put in that year and the attention to detail in everything that I did.”
