Red Sox pitcher Walker Buehler returned to Boston for testing on his shoulder ahead of the ball club’s series finale with the Toronto Blue Jays, manager Alex Cora said on Thursday.
“We’re working through a few things regarding Walker,” Cora told reporters at Rogers Centre. “He hasn’t bounced back the way we wanted, so we have to wait.”
Cora said the Red Sox will “wait and see” before deciding if he needs an IL stint. However, Buehler will miss his scheduled start Friday against the Minnesota Twins at Fenway Park. Brayan Bello will take the mound in his place. Cora did not confirm who would get the start on Saturday and Garrett Crochett will toe the rubber in the series finale against the Twins.
Buehler went six innings in Cleveland this past Saturday, giving up three runs on seven hits in a Red Sox win over the Guardians. It was his third quality start in his last four outings, all four of which have featured three or fewer earned runs allowed.
The righty is 4–1 with a 4.28 ERA in six starts this season for the Red Sox. Buehler has allowed 16 runs on 32 hits across 33 2/3 innings of work. He has struck out 29 batters and walked nine. Buehler signed a one-year, $21.05 million contract with Boston in December.

Buehler wasn’t the only Boston player to have the injury bug hit. Red Sox rookie Kristian Campbell was scratched ahead of Boston’s tilt with the Blue Jays due to right rib discomfort.
