RODARTE, HIS SON. ALL RIGHT, SWITCHING GEARS TO THE A’S NEW ERA ON THIS MONDAY. HERE’S A TIME LAPSE OF THE WORKERS UNCOVERING THE FIELD AT SUTTER HEALTH PARK EARLIER TODAY. IT’S BEEN A VERY BUSY MORNING. A WET MORNING, WHICH IS WHY IT WAS COVERED WITH A TARP. AND NOW WE’RE JUST A FEW HOURS AWAY FROM THE BIG GAME. AND IT SOUNDS LIKE WE’RE GOING TO HAVE A LITTLE BIT MORE WET WEATHER. THIS IS THE FIRST OF AT LEAST THREE SEASONS FOR THE A’S IN WEST SACRAMENTO, AND THE EXCITEMENT IS BUILDING. THE ATHLETICS WILL TAKE ON THE CHICAGO CUBS FOR THEIR FIRST HOME GAME. KCRA 3’S ERIN HEFT HAS BEEN FOLLOWING THE EXCITEMENT IN WEST SACRAMENTO JUST AHEAD OF THE BIG DAY. IT’S A NEW ERA FOR THE A’S HERE IN WEST SACRAMENTO AS THEY MAKE THEIR DEBUT HERE AT SUTTER HEALTH PARK. LIKE YOU SAID, IT’S OFFICIALLY OPENING DAY. AND THIS THE FIRST OF SEVERAL EXCITING UPCOMING HOMESTANDS. AFTER THE CUBS COMES THE SAN DIEGO PADRES, THEN THE NEW YORK METS, TEXAS RANGERS, WHITE SOX, SEATTLE MARINERS AND THEN COME THE YANKEES. THIS A FIRST OF ITS KIND MOMENT HERE IN WEST SACRAMENTO, PLAYING HOME TO THE MLB AND THEIR 40 MAN ROSTERS. AND WE SPOKE TO A FEW PEOPLE ON THIS BIG DAY OUTSIDE AT SUTTER HEALTH PARK. SO EXCITED. I MEAN, I CAN’T I CAN’T BELIEVE IT. LIKE IT’S FUNNY, I THOUGHT LIKE IN THE EARLY 2000, LIKE EARLY 2000, I WAS LIKE, YOU KNOW WHAT? IF BIG LEAGUE BASEBALL EVER CAME TO SACRAMENTO WITH THIS FAN BASE, YOU KNOW, AND JUST TO KIND OF FEEL HOW LOUD THIS CROWD IS GOING TO BE, I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE PLAYERS TO EXPERIENCE IT. YEAH. Monday marks a historic moment in the Sacramento region as the Athletics begin their temporary tenure at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento. Some fans were grabbing a drink or a bite to eat ahead of the game, while others were settling in for a game watch party the business was hosting.
