Rochester, N.Y. — Bruce the Bat Dog will soon be fetching his big league dreams.

The Rochester Red Wings beloved “paw-spect” is set to make his debut with the Washington Nationals Saturday during a home matchup against the Miami Marlins, which is expected to start at 1:05 p.m.

He will then return to his duties at Innovative Field.

“We always knew Bruce was destined for the Big Leagues — he’s got the paws, the personality, and the hustle,” Red Wings General Manager Dan Mason said in a statement. “But what makes us even prouder is the difference he’s made off the field. From bringing smiles to fans at the ballpark to supporting our veterans through his community campaign, Bruce has truly earned this call-up. He’s going to do a doggone great job for the Nationals and their fans!”

Bruce will also appear at Friday night’s Red Wings home game, which is set to start at 6:45 p.m., against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.

The Flower City Group is donating $100 to both Honor Flight Rochester and the Veterans Outreach Center for every bat Bruce fetches through the “Bruce Bettering the Community Campaign.”
