Springer exited the game in clear pain after colliding with the wall in right field while trying to make a catch on Jesse Winker’s game-tying triple.
After the team’s 3-2 loss, Jays manager John Schneider said Springer was experiencing lower back spasms. There are no plans for an MRI or further tests, and Springer will be re-evaluated Sunday.
The 35-year-old went down awkwardly and ran to pick up the ball as two Mets baserunners came around to score on the play. But once he threw the ball towards the infield, Springer went down again and eventually left with Blue Jays trainer Jose Ministral and manager John Schneider.
Nathan Lukes entered the game in Springer’s place.
Springer, who has been off to a hot start this season, was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in the game.
