The Boston Celtics meet the Orlando Magic as the first round of the NBA playoffs gets going in the Eastern Conference.

Boston (61-21) is looking to repeat after winning it all last year. Star forward Jayson Tatum has led the way, pacing the Celtics in points, assists and rebounds, but this is hardly a one-man show. Jaylen Brown won the NBA Finals MVP last year, while veteran guard duo Jrue Holiday and Derrick White have been sure and steady contributors. That said, Boston dropped two of its three meetings against Orlando this season, including a dismal 96-76 loss earlier this month.

Orlando (41-41) survived the play-in tournament to secure a spot in this series, posting a 25-point win over the Atlanta Hawks. Starting forwards Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner combine for 50 points per game on average, but the Magic finished the regular season having outscored only two other teams in the league. Orlando’s secret has been defense, with opposing teams averaging just 105.5 points per game (the lowest figure in the NBA this season).

Here’s what to know to watch Game 1 in the Celtics-Magic NBA playoff series:

Boston Celtics 99, Orlando Magic 83 (3:23/4th)

The Magic used a strong second quarter to take a slim halftime lead over the top-seeded Celtics. Paolo Banchero had 19 points and five rebounds, and Franz Wagner added 15 for Orlando. The Magic put up 31 points in the second quarter to the Celtics’ 22.

Derrick White leads Boston with 16 points, and Payton Pritchard added 11 off the bench. But Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown both struggled in the opening half. Tatum had just six points of 3-for-9 shooting and missed all three of his 3-pointers. Brown also had six points, shooting 3-for-8.

Both teams shoot 44 percent from the field, and Boston, which set the NBA single-season record for most three-pointers by a team, hit 7 of 16 beyond the arc in the first half.
