UConn head coach Dan Hurley seriously considered taking the Los Angeles Lakers job last summer. There will be no such speculation when it comes to the New York Knicks’ vacancy.

The topic of the Knicks job came up at Hurley’s news conference Wednesday, and the coach was not willing to entertain the subject. He shut down the speculation with a simple, five-word response.

“Not another summer of that,” Hurley said, via Dom Amore of the Hartford Courant.

Hurley has suggested that he was drawn to the Lakers job because of the prestige of the franchise, not necessarily because he is desperate to coach in the NBA. If that is the case, the Knicks job would not hold a lot of appeal for him.

The Lakers made a huge effort to lure Hurley, but it was unsuccessful. Still, it prompted a lengthy period of speculation and rumor about whether the UConn coach would take the job. He simply does not want to do that again, either.

One of the rumored candidates for the Knicks job does have extensive links to the college game, but it is not Hurley. He will be back at UConn next season to try and improve on last season’s underwhelming 24-11 campaign.
