Donovan Mitchell’s playoff journey continued with a historic performance in Game 1 of the Cleveland Cavaliers‘ first-round matchup against the Miami Heat on Sunday.

The All-Star guard posted 30 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals, marking his seventh consecutive Game 1 performance with 30 or more points. This accomplishment places him in rare company, joining Michael Jordan as the only two players in NBA history to achieve this feat.

Mitchell’s 30-point effort helped lead the Cavaliers to a commanding 121–100 victory, setting the tone for what promises to be a strong postseason run for Cleveland. His offensive production was crucial throughout the game, as he played an integral role from start to finish.

The performance showcased the 28-year-old’s scoring versatility. He was efficient from the floor (11-of-19), hitting key shots from beyond the arc while also driving to the rim with ease. His ability to control the pace and keep the Heat on the defensive throughout the game allowed the Cavaliers to build a comfortable lead.

“He can get in the lane and finish and he’s a great shooter. Such a complete player,” Cleveland head coach Kenny Atkinson told reporters postgame. “Whatever we ask him to do, he’ll do it. He never shies away when we ask him to do the dirty work.”

Beyond Mitchell’s scoring, the Cavaliers received valuable contributions from Ty Jerome, who came off the bench to add 28 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter. Darius Garland also had a strong performance with 27 points.

The team’s three-point shooting was particularly effective, as it connected on 18-of-43 attempts from deep. This all-around effort highlighted that the Cavaliers are more than just Mitchell, with a collective team performance supporting their star player.

With this win, the Cavaliers take a 1–0 series lead, heading into Game 2 on Wednesday in Cleveland. Mitchell’s ability to deliver in high-pressure moments only strengthens his reputation as one of the league’s top playoff performers.

As the Cavaliers look to continue their postseason push, Mitchell’s consistent scoring and leadership will be crucial in their pursuit of a championship.
