Chris Sale’s emotions rang out in his best and worst of times during his career with the Boston Red Sox.
He certainly let loose Tuesday night as the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner took the ball for the Atlanta Braves in a National League East division matchup against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Sale took exception to a borderline fastball on the edge to Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm that home plate umpire Stu Scheurwater called a ball after a flinch after the pitch. The ex-Red Sox starter waved his arms in frustration after he believed Scheurwater would ring up Bohm.

Sale couldn’t complete five innings as the Phillies tagged him for five earned runs on nine hits, including a long home run from former Red Sox teammate Kyle Schwarber. The Braves did come back late for a 7-5 win over Philadelphia.

The Red Sox and Braves play six games in just over two weeks when Boston and Atlanta each host a three-game set as common interleague opponents from May 16-18 and May 30-June 1. Sale took advantage last season against his old team in a home win over Boston.
