The Boston Celtics are going to the NBA playoffs, and they’re taking JD Davison with them.
The former Alabama guard signed a standard contract with the Celtics, the NBA team announced on Sunday. Boston’s 2024-25 regular-season schedule ends on Sunday, with the Celtics heading into the NBA playoffs as the No. 2 seed in the East.
Davison had been on a two-way contract, which allowed him to divide his time between the Celtics and their NBA Gatorade League affiliate, the Maine Celtics.
By signing Davison to its 15-player roster, Boston made Davison eligible to play in the postseason. Players on two-way contracts are not eligible for the NBA playoffs.
Davison won the Kia NBA G League Most Valuable Player for the 2024-25 season as he averaged 25.6 points, 7.7 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 45 games for Maine.
In 15 games this season with Boston, Davison has 24 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists, three steals and one blocked shot in 76 minutes.
Since Boston selected Davison at No. 53 in the 2022 NBA Draft, the guard has been with the team on a two-way contract.
During that time, Davison has become Maine’s career leader in points and assists while appearing in 35 games with Boston.
Davison earned Alabama’s Mr. Basketball Award for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons while leading the Calhoun School in Letohatchee to the AHSAA Class 2A championship in each campaign. Davison averaged 33.4 points, 12.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists as a junior and 32.4 points, 10.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists as a senior at Calhoun.
Davison averaged 8.5 points, 4.8 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game in his only season at Alabama.
