A former Harrisburg Senators third baseman was killed after a roof collapsed at a nightclub in the Dominican Republic.Tony Blanco was among the 98 people killed, Dominican Police confirmed. It is still not clear what caused the collapse.The Senators released a statement Wednesday afternoon saying:”We are deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic death of former Harrisburg Senator Tony Blanco in Tuesday’s tragedy in the Dominican Republic. Tony played in 80 games for the Harrisburg Senators between 2006 and 2007. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”Blanco played nine games for the Senators in 2006 and 71 in 2007. He hit 12 home runs, scored 32 runs himself and had 51 RBIs. He also played for the Washington Nationals in the majors. Blanco was born in the Dominican Republic before moving to the U.S. to pursue professional baseball. He also played first base and left field during his career. He was 43.Also killed in the collapse were former Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Octavio Dotel and the sister of seven-time MLB all-star Nelson Cruz.
