PITTSBURGH, PA. –A fan who fell 21 feet from the right field railing at Pittsburgh’s PNC Park Wednesday night has been identified as a former Wheeling University football player.

South Allegheny School District officials say that Kavan Markwood, 21, of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, is in critical condition at Allegheny General Hospital’s trauma center.
Markwood, who played in five of Wheeling University’s 11 games in 2023 as a linebacker, fell over the railing in the seventh inning of a Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates game, moments after a game-deciding RBI double by Andrew McCutchen.
McCutchen took to social media after the game.
Truly hate what happened tonight. Cant help but think about that guy, his family and friends. I pray tonight for him. Let us think about his loved ones and hug our families a little tighter tonight. I hope he pulls thru. May God Bless you all. Good night 🙏🏾

After the fall, Markwood was tended to by doctors and medical personnel from both teams. He was taken out of the park on a stretcher before being transported to the hospital.
Pittsburgh Public Safety has described the fall as “accidental in nature.”
