Mother Nature, which interfered with the series opener May 19, continued to wreak havoc for the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Guardians.
The teams were trying to pack in two games Tuesday, May 20, in Minneapolis but rain again tarnished those plans and both games were postponed.
The teams were scheduled to resume the suspended Monday game and, approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of that game, the teams were to meet again to play the regularly scheduled Tuesday game.
Now, the American League Central rivals are set to resume Monday’s suspended game at 1:10 p.m. ET Wednesday, with the Twins leading 2-1 in the top of the fourth inning, and Wednesday’s regularly scheduled game will begin approximately 30 minutes after the suspended game ends.
Tuesday’s game is set to be made up as part of split doubleheader starting at 2:10 p.m. ET Sept. 20, with the game scheduled for that day beginning at 7:10 p.m.
Guardians and Twins forced to juggle pitching staffs
Both teams’ managers likely will have to juggle their pitching staffs in the coming days.
Twins right-hander Bailey Ober and Guardians left-hander Logan Allen tossed three innings apiece Monday before the game was suspended. Neither pitcher will come back Wednesday, which likely will lead both teams to rely heavily on their bullpens to fill the final five innings.
The Twins led 2-1 after three innings when play stopped. Ty France and Willi Castro had one RBI apiece for Minnesota, and Kyle Manzardo drove in the Guardians’ lone run.
Right-handers Tanner Bibee (3-4, 4.06 ERA) of the Guardians and Joe Ryan (4-2, 2.42) of the Twins are listed as the starting pitchers for Wednesday’s scheduled game.
Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt said he is looking forward to the Guardians’ games against the Twins, whenever they take place.
“We know the Twins are playing really well right now,” Vogt said. “So are the [Detroit] Tigers. … This is going to be a tough trip. We knew that coming into it.”
