Milwaukee Bucks fans perhaps hoping to see Tyrese Haliburton meet some playoff heartbreak are experiencing increasing disappointment.

The Oshkosh native and co-author of Milwaukee’s quick exit over the past two seasons is now one win away from his first NBA finals, and he’s gotten to this point in spectacular fashion.

On May 27 against the New York Knicks, Haliburton became the first NBA player, regular or postseason, with 32 points, 12 rebounds, 15 assists, four steals and no turnovers. His 15 assists with no turnovers also set a conference finals mark.

The Pacers’ 130-121 win over the Knicks put Indiana up in the Eastern Conference finals series, 3-1. On May 29, the team can clinch its first trip to the finals in 25 years.

The Oshkosh North graduate has been collecting playoff moments like parade candy all season, including the game-winner to eliminate the Bucks in Game 5 of the first round and a wild shot before the buzzer to force overtime and lead to a Game 1 win in the current series. He also beat the buzzer to defeat the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

His father, John, who was asked to stay away from future playoff games after a run-in with Giannis Antetokounmpo after the first-round clincher, has even been invited back.

With one more win, Tyrese Haliburton could ensure that a Wisconsin high-school alumnus has appeared in every NBA finals but one in the past decade, and the one exception featured the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021 against University of Wisconsin alumnus Frank Kaminsky and the Phoenix Suns.
