Former NBA player Kendrick Perkins is excited to see what the Dallas Mavericks star has in store for fans in the Play-In tournament.
Before the 2024-25 NBA season started, no Dallas Mavericks fan could have predicted how this campaign would go.
The highlight remains the Mavericks trading away Luka Doncic for a package primarily around 2020 NBA champion Anthony Davis.
While the move was reportedly made to enter a win-now situation, Davis was sidelined for six weeks after suffering an adductor injury during his Mavs debut.

Kendrick Perkins praises Anthony Davis
When Davis was injured, the Mavericks were hit with a plethora of heartbreaking injuries, including Kyrie Irving tearing his ACL.
NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins thinks Davis deserves praise for returning this season, even after what has gone down during his short stint with the Mavericks.
“He could have sat out for the remainder of the season, he didn’t want to. He wanted to be out there on the floor with his guys.
He wanted to go out there and show Mavs fans that they have hope and belief, that they have something to be happy about.

“I understand, it was a funeral when Luka Doncic left. But guess what Dallas, y’all got one right now. A guy that’s a generational talent in the middle of his prime.”
Davis may have played in just six games for the team, but the Mavericks are 5-1 when the big man is in the lineup. Moreover, AD just had his first big moment in a Mavs jersey as he led the team to a thrilling win over the Atlanta Hawks.
All eyes on Anthony Davis
As of now, the Mavericks are the ninth seed in the Western Conference, which means they have a chance to secure a playoff seed via the Play-In tournament.
Keeping that in mind, Perkins noted: “He’s here, he’s happy to be in the Dallas Mavericks uniform and I can’t wait to see what he does in the Play-In tournament.”
While Davis and Co. will likely give their 100% in the postseason, NBA analyst Michael Wilbon is still crushed over Irving’s absence.
“I really feel bad now, even more so that Kyrie’s injured. Dallas would have been a really fascinating team to watch in the playoffs with everybody in that lineup.”
It would have been amazing to see the Irving-Davis duo in action, but the Mavericks fanbase will have to make do with the 32-year-old being their primary superstar, at least for this season.
