The hottest story in the NBA in the Summer of 2025 is going to be the eventual destination of Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant. The multiple-time All-Star and All-NBA player is looking to move on after two and a half seasons with the Suns. Despite his advanced age—he’ll turn 37 during the coming NBA season—suitors are lining up to procure his services.
Today Shams Charania of ESPN tweeted that the list of potential trade partners for the Suns is down to five serious contenders. They are the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, Minnesota Timberwolves, Miami Heat, and New York Knicks.

Two of those teams—Minnesota and New York—made deep runs in the 2025 NBA Playoffs and would be looking to Durant as the piece that puts them over the top. Both would be able to trade veteran talent to Phoenix in return. Two others—the Rockets and Spurs—are young teams on the rise with stars already in the fold. They’d be hoping Durant would solidify their lineup and lift their team to postseason relevance. One team, the Miami Heat, is a confused mess but Florida’s lack of sales tax and lush beaches make the Heat throw-ins during almost every major trade discussion across the league.
Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in 36.5 minutes per game during 62 appearances with the Suns this season. He failed to gel with younger star Devin Booker and fellow veteran Bradley Beale as the Suns won just 36 games and missed the playoffs.
