Matthew Tkachuk‘s focus right now is on Game 6 against Edmonton on Tuesday, but in his latest interview, the Panthers star couldn’t help but troll Toronto.
The Florida Panthers are just one win away from back-to-back Stanley Cup victories, as they have the opportunity to close out the Edmonton Oilers on home ice on Tuesday in a critical Game 6.
Despite the challenge that lay ahead of finishing off another Stanley Cup win, Tkachuk’s mind was elsewhere at a recent press conference on Monday, as he took the time to seemingly fire a subtle shot at the Toronto Maple Leafs.
When he was asked about what the toughest series thus far in the playoffs has been, Tkachuk once again trolled Toronto, as he stated that beyond the Cup Finals, he and his team knew that round one against the Tampa Bay Lightning would be their toughest series.
This comes as no surprise given what an enemy Tkachuk has been of the Maple Leafs over the past few years, and while it’s unclear if he believes his statement, the Toronto series was clearly much harder, as that went to seven games compared to the Lightning’s five games.
Tkachuk’s statement doesn’t mean he’s not focused on Tuesday night’s Game 6 however, as he addressed the fact that the Cup will be in the building ahead of another potential clinching win at home, as he showed love to the fans that have supported them the entire way.
«Our fans have given us so much love and support and they deserve to have this type of game at home.»
Ultimately, this is a player that’s built for the big moment, and while his focus remains on Edmonton, Tkachuk once again couldn’t resist a shot at the Toronto Maple Leafs.
