Mississippi State guard Josh Hubbard will declare for the 2025 NBA Draft, On3’s Joe Tipton has learned. He will do so while maintaining his collegiate eligibility.
Hubbard just wrapped up his sophomore season with the Bulldogs. It was one for the record books.
The 5-foot-11 guard averaged 18.9 points per game during the 2024-25 season. He also averaged 3.1 assists, 2.1 rebounds and 0.9 steals per game.
Those numbers helped get Josh Hubbard onto the All-SEC Second Team for the second consecutive season. He also made that squad as a freshman, despite starting in only 16 of his team’s 35 games in 2023-24.
Hubbard finished this season with an 87.8% free throw percentage, the best in Mississippi State school history. He also attempted a school record 313 3-point attempts.
Shooting is clearly Josh Hubbard’s biggest asset heading to the next level, as he shot 34.5% from 3-point range. If he can bump those percentages just a touch he’ll be an even more viable NBA option.
But with only two seasons down, there’s certainly the possibility that Hubbard could return for another year at Mississippi State. He might even be best served by doing so.
Sports Illustrated provided some potential draft analysis on Hubbard recently. The publication concluded there’s still some untapped upside, writing the following on Josh Hubbard:
“While he’s a very good free throw shooter and an adequate 3-point shooter, increasing his perimeter efficiency will be another way he can improve his draft stock this season. If he can do that, we’re looking at a valuable floor spacer at the next level, combined with his ability to be a tough driver who uses his strength well.
“Hubbard’s shot diet as a freshman was interesting, as nearly 65% of his attempts from the floor were from beyond the 3-point line. Again, maintaining that volume but converting at a higher clip would be huge. But overall he needs to round out his game and show he can do more than score. His rebounding production lacks and assist numbers need to increase among other things.”
