Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce picked current team great Jayson Tatum as the “most disrespected” superstar in the NBA right now.
“When I watch Tatum on and off the court, he’s humble, he works hard,” Pierce said to NBC Sports Boston. “I have a chance to watch him workout in LA every year, he loves the game. He has something to play for because he’s probably the most disrespected superstar in our league.
Pierce justified picking Tatum not only because he believes he’s not appreciated enough in the NBA. He aloso mentioned the 2024 Olympic Games, where the Celtics forward was mostly benched and had a very limited role.
Fresh of leading the Celtics to the NBA championship title, Tatum averaged 17.7 minutes in the Olympics, posting 5.3 rebounds and 5.3 rebounds. He wasn’t used at all in the tough semifinal win over Serbia and played 11 minutes in the Final against France.
“The motivation is always there for him. Look what they did to him at the Olympics,” Pierce added. “It seems like its always something with Jayson Tatum that doesn’t sit well with people and year in and year out, he’s first team All-NBA, he won a championship and then there’s something else.”
