The Los Angeles Lakers will be among the most notable teams to watch heading into the 2024-25 NBA playoffs.
Their addition of Luka Doncic gives reason to believe that they can compete for a title as soon as this year.

Basketball Hall of Famer shared a concern he had for the Lakers (and Doncic) heading into the postseason.
Carter (via the NBA on TNT): “Defensively would be the question… Come playoffs, you make adjustments from game to game… We’ve seen historically, teams try to go at and make Luka guard… The beauty of what he had in Dallas is even if one of the bigs got in foul trouble, you had another one… You put the pressure on one big getting in foul trouble, where do you go now?”
So far, the Lakers have been able to make everything work with the addition of Doncic.
However (as Carter notes), the NBA playoffs are much different when it comes to how teams attack.
Via Joel Moran Pick a Side (on February 7): “Luka Doncic playing for the Lakers will change the narrative on his defense
23-24 playoffs:
– 3.2 deflections per game (ranked 7th)
– 43.9% DFG (-5.2% difference)
Never been a bad defender. Y’all are about to see how the narrative changes”

Right now, the Lakers are the fourth seed in the Western Conference with a 45-29 record in 74 games.
They will resume action on Monday night when they host the Houston Rockets.
