- The accident reportedly happened early on Thursday in Los Angeles
The son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas has been placed into an induced coma after a car crash left his Tesla ‘mangled’ on the side of the road, according to multiple reports.
Alijah Arenas, 18, was involved in the serious accident on Thursday morning, ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported.
TMZ later reported that Alijah had crashed his Tesla Cybertruck, with the car reportedly ‘mangled’ on the side of a residential Los Angeles road following the accident.
Emergency responders reportedly arrived to the scene at 4:55am, with the front of the car on fire.
The fire department had initially responded to a ‘trapped patient’ call, according to TMZ, though Alijah was said to be out of the vehicle when authorities arrived.
It is unclear if there were others in the Cybertruck with him, and if so, how many.
Alijah is a five-star basketball prospect committed to play at USC next season.

He played in the McDonald’s All-American Game earlier this month on April 1.
Many in the basketball community took to social media to offer their prayers and well-wishes to the teenager, including former NBA players Evan Turner and Jonas Jerebko.
CBS college basketball insider Jon Rothstein also wrote: ‘Prayers to Alijah Arenas and his family’ with a slew of prayer-hands emojis.
His father Arenas, 43, has yet to address the incident.
The former Wizards star, nicknamed ‘Agent Zero,’ was a three-time All-Star for Washington as he averaged 25 points per game in 357 games for the franchise.
While he was traded to the Magic in 2010, he ended his time in Washington as 10th in the franchise’s all-time scoring charts and sixth in steals.

Previously, he was named the league’s Most Improved Player for the 2002-03 season while he was with the Warriors.
He last appeared in the NBA during the 2011-12 season.
Arenas then wrapped up his pro basketball career with the Shanghai Sharks in China for one season.
The ex-NBA star has five total children – including four with his ex-partner Laura Govan: daughter Izela, 19, Alijah, 18, daughter Hamiley, 14, and son Aloni, 13.
Arenas also had a child with his ex-girlfriend Lindsay Faulk.
Their daughter, Gia, is 10 years old.
