NBA and Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry played in Sunday night’s playoff victory against the Houston Rockets, and he got a little help from Nebraska basketball in the process. Curry wore Keisei Tominaga’s “Sakura” Curry 12 PE shoes and had himself quite the game.

Curry finished with 37 points on five-of-nine shooting from beyond the arc and 12-of-19 shooting from the field. He also made both of his free throws on the evening. Scoring wasn’t the only thing he brought to the table on Sunday. He also finished with six assists, three rebounds, a block, and a steal.

Tominaga signed with the Curry Brand back in June, becoming the first international athlete to do so. Curry and Tominaga first met more than five years ago when Tominaga was invited to the 2018 Under Armour Basketball Tour in Tokyo as a high school student.

The former Husker currently plays for the Noblesville Boom of the NBA G League. Last season, he appeared in 14 games, averaging 5.4 points per game while playing for the Indiana Mad Ants. The Mad Ants/Boom is an affiliate of the Indiana Pacers.

Tominaga played at Nebraska for three seasons from 2021 to 2024. In his senior year, he played in 32 games and averaged 15.1 points, shooting 46.6% from the field and 37.6% from the three-point line.

It’s certainly exciting to see Nebraska basketball represented in this way, with Tominaga making his mark in the NBA in a unique way on a national level. The fact that Curry had an impactful game is just icing on the proverbial cake.
