The Edmonton Oilers have elimintated the Vegas Golden Knights, placing themselves in the Western Conference Final. Edmonton has its sights on getting back to the Stanley Cup Final after losing in Game 7 last season.
While the players likely aren’t thinking about the upcoming offseason, it’s probably been on the minds of the front office. Any good team is always thinking ahead, and Edmonton could be very active this summer.
NHL writer Lyle Richardson of Bleacher Report posted surprising potential landing spots for upcoming free agents. Within, the Oilers are predicted to land star defenseman Aaron Ekblad of the Florida Panthers.
“The Oilers saw Ekblad’s talent first hand in last season’s Stanley Cup Final,” Richardson wrote. “Scherber makes the case that his effectiveness, ability to adapt to different defense partners, and overall skills would be a terrific fit on Edmonton’s blue line. He’d also have a chance to play with superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.”
