The NBA Draft Combine brought 2025 rookie class together to get official measurements and to run specific drills. With all the scouting teams have done all season, they have a very good idea of what they think of each player already. That said, there are chances for some surprises. For example, some players may measure shorter/taller than expected or maybe a player has a standout shooting performance that was unexpected. Perhaps these are the performances that might be the tiebreaker if a team is close on specific prospects. Here are some prospects that stood out and might have turned some heads.

Tre Johnson

There is no doubt that a lot of NBA teams know all about Tre Johnson and his scoring potential. For me, there were some eye-popping measurements from Johnson that were surprising, in a good way.

The first was the vertical. VJ Edgecombe was predictably great cracking the 40 inch mark, but Tre Johnson had an impressive 37.5 inches!

On top of that he had some eye-popping measurements too. He was just under 6’5” with a 6’10” wingspan.

The shooting was expected, but still incredible.

It looks so smooth from him, there’s just no way he doesn’t become a great shooter at the next level.

Cedric Coward

I don’t know if anyone has had their measurements and numbers jump off the page more than Cedric Coward. The rapidly rising mid-major showed up big time.

His shooting is the first thing that really pops. For example, look at his shooting off the dribble, right there with Tre Johnson.

What’s also remarkable are his unbelievable measurements. Standing 6’5 ¼” barefoot, 213 lbs with a 7’2 ¼” wingspan and 8’10” standing reach, it’s hard to not look at him as a great pick if he’s there for the Jazz at 21.

Drake Powell

Drake Powell will be entering the NBA after just one season at North Carolina, and his combine might have really helped his stock. His measurements were very, very good for a player who could become an elite defensive player in the NBA.

On top of his impressive length and size, Powell is an explosive leaper with the best standing vertical in the entire combine.

Powell was the best athlete at the combine, which makes him a very tantalizing prospect. It’s getting very clear that the Utah Jazz will have some really good prospects available at 21 and should have a lot of choices come draft night. They may even want to find a way to trade into the late lottery if they think one of these players could be an elite role player for the future.
