LOS ANGELES — After suffering the worst home shutout loss in franchise history, there’s nothing much for the Dodgers to do but look ahead after a 16-0 drubbing on Saturday night at the hands of the Cubs.
“For me right now, it’s just the mindset of trying to forget this one and win a series,” manager Dave Roberts said Saturday night. “Obviously it got really ugly towards the end, but we saved our pitching in a game that got away from us. I feel really good about tomorrow and Glasnow taking the mound, and having a fully-stocked pen.”
After Roki Sasaki went five innings for his first time in the majors, the Dodgers only used real relievers Ben Casparius and Luis García before infielder Miguel Rojas soaked up the final two innings, impersonating his teammates along the way. That leaves five relievers available on Sunday who have pitched no more than one in the previous three days, and none of whom who have pitched more than twice dating back to Monday.
Before Saturday’s 16-0 whitewash, the Dodgers lost by at least 10 runs in 11 other games over the previous 10 seasons. Here’s what happened the next game:
