HUZZAH! VICTORY!
OK now that’s out of the way, this was a ROUGH game of baseball to watch on the offensive side. Lots of wasted chances, the throwing error that led to the Blue Jays’ go-ahead run in the 8th inning—and frankly the defense this season in general still—it’s been awful to watch. It felt like each team was handing the other the W until finally it the Jays said no givesies backsies. Almost fitting the game ended on a rough defensive play like that.
Three Studs
Jarren Duran (2-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 run, 2 BBs)
After a quiet start, Duran is finding his stride. Drawing two walks is extremely helpful to his cause, having his legs on the basepaths is a weapon especially when he swipes bags like he did this afternoon.
Trevor Story (2-for-5, 2 SB, 1 RBI)
Two stolen bases, the game winning RBI (yes it was fluky), and a single that could have been the game-winning run in the ninth inning? That’s a successful game. Aside from his defense.
Walker Buehler (6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 7 K)
Definitely Buehler’s best game as a Red Sox so far. Even with the offense struggling at the moment, it’s great seeing starters make it at least six frames.
Three Duds
Ceddanne Rafaela (0-for-4, 2 Ks)
Is this Jackie Bradley Jr all over again? Just over the Mendoza line offense and stellar defense? Is that gonna cut it?
Triston Casas (1-for-4, 2 K)
Casas just hasn’t felt at home in the box this season, his pop just isn’t there right now and it probably is eating him alive.
Offense with RISP (2-for-12)
This has to change and fast. Losing Connor Wong certainly puts a wrinkle in the lineup, but some adjustments have to be made to make the offense more consistent.
Play of the Game
It’s not a flying pizza, but who knew a fried dough would make a perfect mitt?
