The Red Sox stormed out of the gate in their home opener, and they revealed a critically important new development in the process.

Boston launched back-to-back home runs in the first inning of Friday afternoon’s game against St. Louis at Fenway Park. Trevor Story first tagged Cardinals starter Erick Fedde for a three-run blast over the Green Monster and Wilyer Abreu immediately followed with a 392-foot solo round-tripper into the right-field bleachers.

By putting baseballs into the seats, Story and Abreu helped debut the Red Sox’s new home run celebration. Each player wore a Wally mascot head as they walked down the dugout and received high-fives from teammates.

With the kind of lineup the 2025 Red Sox boast, Boston fans probably can expect to see the Wally mask plenty this season.
