Boston Red Sox rookie Hunter Dobbins made himself a ton of new fans on Saturday.
No, he didn’t go seven shutout innings or anything like that, but he did drop an all-time quote one night before his debut against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.
“This is one that I’ve had circled for a long time,” Dobbins told Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald. “I’ve said it before, that if the Yankees were the last team to give me a contract, I’d retire.”
Oh. Hell. Yeah.
Dobbins, 25, has already ingratiated himself nicely to local fans, making nine total appearances and seven starts– procuring a 4.06 ERA. You can’t buy the kind of love that is produced from hating a rival before ever even facing them, though.

Ken Griffey Jr. once famously said something similar, so the kid isn’t alone.
The Red Sox will look to ride that rage to victory against the Yankees on Sunday Night Baseball, with first pitch of the final game of the series scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET.
