CLEVELAND — The Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Guardians game Friday has been postponed due to rain in the forecast throughout the evening and night.
There will be a doubleheader Saturday instead. Friday’s game has been moved to 1:10 p.m. Saturday. The second game is scheduled for 6:10 p.m.
Righty Tanner Houck (0-2, 7.66 ERA) was scheduled to start for Boston opposite Cleveland righty Ben Lively (1-2, 3.86 ERA) on Friday. Houck and Lively will pitch the 1:10 p.m. game.
Red Sox righty Walker Buehler (3-1, 4.23 ERA) is scheduled to start the 6:10 p.m. game opposite Guardians pitching prospect Doug Nikhazy, a lefty who will be making his MLB debut.
The Red Sox will need to decide who to add as the 27th man for the doubleheader. Manager Alex Cora said it might be righty Cooper Criswell who last pitched for Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday. He went 5 scoreless innings and allowed two hits and no walks while striking out eight against Syracuse.
Friday’s game was scheduled to be on Apple TV+. Both games Saturday will be on NESN.
The Red Sox enter with a 14-13 record and the Guardians are 14-10.
