A four-legged member of the Rochester Red Wings has been called up to the majors.
Bruce the Bat Dog will travel to Washington, D.C., where he’ll make his major league debut Saturday during the Nationals’ home game against the Miami Marlins.
This is part of the Nationals’ Pups in the Park series.
“We always knew Bruce was destined for the Big Leagues—he’s got the paws, the personality, and the hustle,” Red Wings General Manager Dan Mason said in a statement. “But what makes us even prouder is the difference he’s made off the field. From bringing smiles to fans at the ballpark to supporting our veterans through his community campaign, Bruce has truly earned this call-up. He’s going to do a doggone great job for the Nationals and their fans!”
Bruce made his first appearance at Innovative Field for the Red Wings last September. The team says he’s fetched 43 bats in his three appearances so far this season.
