DENVER — Before the Colorado Rockies opened a condensed three-game series against the Washington Nationals at Coors Field on Saturday, Rockies starting pitcher Austin Gomber was transferred from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL with left shoulder soreness. The move, however, shouldn’t ring any alarm bells regarding Gomber’s timeline for his 2025 debut, according to the left-hander.

“It doesn’t really change anything with the time frame,” Gomber explained. “I’ve already been on [the IL] for close to 30 days. So for me, as far as my rehab, it doesn’t really change anything we’re doing.”

Gomber was initially placed on the IL on March 24 and received a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection “about two weeks ago.” He has also been following an exercise routine that includes building up strength.

“I’m progressing normal,” Gomber said. “I just haven’t started throwing yet. We’re already about 30 days in and I haven’t even touched the ball, so I think the math was that we weren’t going to beat it back.

“There were no setbacks or anything like that. I’m still progressing.”

Gomber expects to go on minor league rehab assignments when the time comes. He will be eligible to return on May 23, but it’s difficult to determine an exact timeline.

“I think once I start throwing, it will be easier to get things scheduled out, like this many days, here, here, here, bullpen, live, BPs (batting practices), games and such,” said Gomber. “That process takes time for sure, but I’m feeling good. I’m feeling better, so I feel like I’m progressing.”

The 31-year-old is set to be a free agent following the 2025 campaign. He is coming off a season where he went 5-12 with a 4.75 ERA/4.83 FIP and tied for the National League lead with 30 home runs allowed.

Part of the trade that sent Nolan Arenado to the St. Louis Cardinals, Gomber is a combined 28-37 with a 5.08 ERA/4.87 FIP in 113 games (97 starts) in Colorado.
