Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the MLB. Throughout the year, we ask questions of the most plugged-in Kansas City Royals fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
Jac Caglianone has been in the big leagues for a week now, and while he hasn’t yet hit any dingers, he’s shown off his prodigious power. His hard hit rate is 52.9%, which would tie him for 22nd in the league. His average exit velocity of 90.7 MPH would tie him for 88th. His average bat speed of 77.4 MPH would tie him for fourth, but his swing length is significantly lower than everyone above him.
Last week, we asked Royals fans to predict how many round-trippers the Royals’ newest slugger would manage before season’s end, with roughly 100 games to go at the time it went live. Many of you stuck with the projection systems, with a plurality estimating he’ll manage between 10 and 15.
Still, everyone has high expectations for the lefty, with 91% believing that whatever number he ends up with, it will be at least in the double digits. Jac’s power may not have resulted in any trots of his own, but his mere presence seems to have inspired the team itself to greater heights. Since he joined the team, they’ve clubbed 8 home runs. That marks a whopping 19% of the team’s dingers in only 9% of their games played!
