
The San Diego Padres blanked the Colorado Rockies during a three-game series this past weekend, outscoring them 16-0.
The Padres outscored the Rockies 8-0, 2-0 and 6-0 in three consecutive games, marking the first time an MLB team has held an opponent scoreless for an entire series since the then-Cleveland Indians against the Kansas City Royals in August 2017. Cleveland swept KC by scores of 4-0, 4-0 and 12-0 to a pull off a 20-0 series shutout.
Cleveland’s three straight shutout victories over Kansas City were wins No. 2, 3 and 4 of a 22-game win streak, the longest in American League history. The next time Cleveland lost came in a 4-3 defeat to none other than the Royals.
The Padres, with a three-game sweep of Colorado, are off to an MLB-best 13-3 start this season, including a three-game sweep of Cleveland March 31 to April 2. San Diego’s 6-0 win over Colorado on Sunday also featured an RBI single by former Cleveland outfielder Oscar Gonzalez.
San Diego is a perfect 10-0 when playing at home at Petco Park this season, and is just the second team In MLB history to record six shutouts in its first 16 games. The Padres’ pitching staff ranks first in MLB in opponent batting average (.184) and second in ERA (2.68).
