Dodgers fans had a lot of mixed emotions following their Game 2 victory on Saturday night. While their team had just taken a commanding 2-0 lead in the World Series, Shohei Ohtani, the likely National League MVP, had walked off the field favoring his shoulder after a ninth inning steal attempt. Had Los Angeles just lost their $700 million leader for the rest of the season?
It appears that the answer is no. According to Dave Roberts, while Ohtani did suffer a partial dislocation of his left shoulder, he’s “in a great spot and will be playing” in Game 3 on Monday night. With that in mind, how should you be attacking Ohtani’s myriad of props on the DraftKings Sportsbook? Let’s dive in.

Shohei Ohtani Over 1.5 Total Bases (+115)
Look, I’ll admit that a “wait and see” approach might be the smart thing to do with Ohtani. However, if we’ve learned anything about the man, it’s that nothing Ohtani does presents as normal or human. Who knows how much his shoulder injury will affect him or how he’ll respond to it, but we’ve sort of seen a situation like this before. Remember last August when Ohtani suffered a tear in his right elbow, but still managed to hit a home run in Game 1 of a doubleheader? He’s an alien.
In a vacuum, this also sets up as an extremely positive matchup for the 30-year-old. Ohtani destroyed right-handed pitching this season, slashing .322/.411/.717 with a .395 ISO and a 202 wRC+ in his 482 plate appearances within the split. From a volume perspective, Ohtani’s status as the Dodgers’ leadoff man is key for this prop, as well. Ohtani’s had at least five plate appearances in seven of Los Angeles’ last eight games.
Let us not forget about the presence of Clarke Schmidt, either. The RHP is on the heels of his best season as a pro, yet throughout his entire career, Schmidt has decidedly worse numbers against LHBs than RHBs. Where righties have hit only .225 with a .284 wOBA versus the 28-year-old, lefties have managed a .283 mark with a .356 wOBA.
