Shohei Ohtani was activated from the paternity list and rejoined the Los Angeles Dodgers for their series finale versus the Texas Rangers on Sunday.

Ohtani went 0-for-3 in his return with a walk and a strikeout in the Dodgers’ 1-0 victory. Los Angeles took two of three games against Texas.

Ohtani was placed on the paternity list Friday and stayed in Los Angeles in anticipation of his wife giving birth to their first child. The couple announced Saturday they’re the parents of a baby girl.

According to MLB roster rules, Ohtani could miss no more than three days while on the paternity list but was required to sit out at least one game. So Monday was the latest Ohtani could rejoin the team, which will be traveling to Chicago.

Following Sunday’s finale at Texas, the Dodgers (16-7) play two games against the Chicago Cubs and then return home Thursday. The Dodgers begin a six-game homestand versus the Pittsburgh Pirates and Miami Marlins on Friday.

Prior to Sunday, Ohtani batted .288 with a .930 OPS, six home runs, eight RBI and five stolen bases in 20 games.

Blake Treinen goes on IL

In other Dodgers roster news, reliever Blake Treinen was placed on the 15-day injured list with right forearm tightness. Manager Dave Roberts told reporters that a MRI exam showed “a low-grade sprain,” and a more serious injury was apparently avoided. No timetable was given for his return.

Treinen, 36, has appeared in eight games, notching 10 strikeouts in eight innings and compiling a 3.38 ERA. He hasn’t pitched since April 13, missing the Dodgers’ past five games. Evan Phillips was activated from the IL to replace Treinen.

Eddie Rosario designated for assignment

To clear a spot for Ohtani on the active roster, the Dodgers designated Eddie Rosario for assignment. Rosario, 33, had been recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma to take Ohtani’s place. He batted .339 with a .948 OPS this season in the minors. In two games with the Dodgers, Rosario went 1-for-4 as a designated hitter.

The Dodgers have one week to either trade Rosario or put him on waivers. If he clears waivers, Rosario could return to the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate, with whom he played 14 games this season, or opt for free agency.
