The 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs continued on Friday night with three pivotal games. Here are some key takeaways from that action.

Did the Canadiens take momentum away from the Capitals?

The Montreal Canadiens returned home to the Bell Centre for Game 3 of their series against the Washington Capitals and needed to feast on the energy their home fans would bring.

They did.

In doing so, they may have taken some momentum away from Capitals and maybe swung the series in their favor.

Montreal not only picked up a 6-3 win to get its first win of the series, it absolutely dominated the game. Even though the Capitals won the first two games of the series, the Canadiens were very much in both games and were giving the Eastern Conference’s top seed everything they could handle. They just needed something to go their way.

It all worked out for them on Friday.

Perhaps even more significant than the Canadiens win is that both starting goalies were injured in Game 3. Capitals goalie Logan Thompson might have suffered the most significant injury when he was taken out by his own teammate following a Canadiens third-period goal.
