The Portland Trail Blazers are officially eliminated from post season play. In spite of defeating the San Antonio Spurs 120-109 on Sunday, the Blazers cannot mathematically advance to the 2025 NBA Play-In Tournament due to the Sacramento Kings’ 120-113 upset of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
By virtue of missing the playoffs the Blazers will keep their first-round pick in the 2025 NBA draft, a pick otherwise owed to the Chicago Bulls. That obligation will roll over for another year.
The Blazers have three remaining games in their season. They play Wednesday in Salt Lake city against the Utah Jazz, and then they finish at home with a game Friday against the Golden State Warriors and next Sunday against the Los Angeles Lakers.
With 44 losses, the Blazers currently own the 9th-worst record in the league. The Spurs have the 8th-worst record with 46 losses. They’d need to win all four of their remaining games while Portland lost their remaining three in order for the Blazers to get to the 8th spot.
The Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns sit just ahead of the Blazers with 43 losses.
