The Tennessee Titans are coming off a terrible 3-14 season, but the disappointing campaign put them in a position to draft a potential franchise quarterback in Cam Ward. All eyes will be on the rookie to begin the 2025 season, but numerous questions surround the team.
Here are three of the biggest:
How bad will the growing pains be for Ward?
Ward will inevitably experience some ups and downs in his first NFL season. Succeeding as a rookie quarterback with a team that was one of the worst in the league the year before is a huge challenge, but Jayden Daniels proved last season that it can be done.
There are plenty of reasons Ward was the consensus top quarterback prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft. The former Miami star threw for 4,313 yards, 39 touchdown passes and just seven interceptions last season. His strong arm and quick release should serve him well professionally.
The big question is whether the Titans have surrounded Ward with enough pieces to make his life easy, which leads to the next question.
Could the Titans have one of the top WR duos in the NFL?
The Titans made a huge splash last offseason when they signed Calvin Ridley to a four-year, $92M deal. In March, they added another veteran to the position when they signed Tyler Lockett to a one-year, $4M contract.
Lockett had a down season with the Seattle Seahawks last year, finishing with just 49 catches for 600 yards and two touchdowns. Ridley made the most of a bad quarterback situation with 64 receptions for 1,017 yards and four touchdowns.
Lockett is 32, so his best football might be behind him. He could also prove to be one of the steals of the offseason if he becomes a viable deep threat for Ward.
Will Brian Callahan survive a second season?
Callahan is entering his second season as Tennessee’s head coach. The former Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator inherited a bad quarterback situation, so Ward should be a massive step up. It would be difficult for the Titans to justify firing a head coach after a season in which a rookie quarterback started, but is it out of the question?
In an era where NFL teams seem to fire coaches more quickly than ever, Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk is probably feeling significant pressure. Many people felt Tennessee should never have fired Mike Vrabel. The team then got worse in 2024.
If the Titans don’t show legitimate signs of improvement this season, the seat under Callahan could begin to get warm sooner than expected.
